“A Church Striving for Better"

 Theme Scripture:

“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12-14

Let us look at the two words which serve as the foundational pins for this year's church-wide theme. Webster defines Striving as "exerting energy or putting forth a great effort", and defines Better as "being greater in excellence or high in quality".

It is with these two words in mind that we as a congregation of Faith shall march forward into a brand new year of work and witness for the kingdom of God. These words are indeed challenging to each of us as we strive to do more in the coming year for the kingdom of God. Now this is not to say that we haven't given ourselves over to its work; but, what it does mean is that there is still plenty of work to be done and we must extend ourselves to the fullest so that the gospel has an opportunity to reach those who have not heard it and those who have not heard it find themselves parked upon the shoulder of the road and need assistance to get back up upon life's highway.

Paul in Philippians 3:14, instructs us to "press toward the mark, for the prize of the high calling". In other words, Paul wants us not to settle for second best, but we are to strive with everything to be greater in excellence or higher in quality as we strive to do better. To give better, serve better, love better, encourage better, and support better.

There are two vehicles which the Lord has laid upon my heart that we would utilize to help our church grow and mature and be the life changing, life saving entity He would desire to see it become.
